How to Think is a book of advice written with the clear intention of helping the reader. Jacobs has taught Literature and Composition for more than 30 years. Helping people to think and write and communicate has been the job of English Professors more than professors in most other subject areas. Jacobs starts by taking us down a peg or two.   Just read through your book as a whole and jot down ideas as they come to you from the themes, the characters ans the situations. Take your time. Find the main topic or theme, and you will find it, for example: The Girl on The Train. You could also name it after the name character, for example: Harry Potter, Matilda. Not Helpful 22 Helpful %(30).

Well, this is a different kind of book. I was trying to think about somebody reading this interview who wants to improve their thinking. Of the books I’ve discussed, the ones that are most obviously aimed at that are Black Box Thinking, the Dobelli book, and Tom Chatfield’s Critical Thinking. The others are more descriptive or academic.   • How to Think: A Guide for the Perplexed by Alan Jacobs is published by Profile (£). To order a copy for £ go to or Author: Lettie Kennedy.

Michael J. Gelb is the world’s leading authority on the application of genius thinking to personal and organizational development. He is a pioneer in the fields of creative thinking, accelerated learning, and innovative leadership. Gelb is the author of fourteen books on creativity and innovation, including Innovate Like Edison: The Five-Step System for /5(29). To me the book is about being optimistic about your potential, thinking positive on a daily basis, and writing down your goals so you can see/visualize them and make them happen. The book shares a positive message about finding success.4/5.
